Verdict: Yes for pets, kids and the car; it's for small, fresh messes, not whole rooms.

The Bissell Little Green is the spot cleaner you've seen all over TikTok, and Wirecutter's September update still names it the top pick for occasional cleanups. It's built for fresh spills and small, gross messes, not for deep-cleaning a whole room.

How it works: hot tap water and Bissell's formula go in the clean tank. You spray, scrub with the little stain tool, then release the trigger and pull slowly. Suction drags the mess into a separate dirty-water tank, and seeing that murky water is exactly why these videos go viral.

The specs that matter: a 48-ounce clean-water tank, a fifteen-foot cord and a hose of about four and a half feet, all under ten pounds. In the current box, Bissell lists a stain tool, a crevice tool, a self-cleaning hose tool and a trial bottle of formula.

What testers found: in Wirecutter's stain tests it pulled out peanut butter, Nutella, yard dirt and orange soda better than the competition, and one staffer used it on cat messes, muddy footprints and years of snacks ground into car seats. Family Handyman found it great on upholstery and carpet spots too.

Cleanup matters with these machines. Bissell says to rinse the hose after every use; the HydroRinse tool flushes it with clean water so gunk doesn't build up and smell. Then empty and rinse the dirty tank.

The honest catch: it's not a miracle machine. Wirecutter found it lightened red wine and coffee but couldn't remove them completely, and no spot cleaner they tried could. The small brush means many passes on bigger stains, the round-bottomed tanks can't stand on their own while filling, Family Handyman wished the short hose swiveled, and Bissell wants you using its own formula. If messes happen weekly, Wirecutter likes the bigger Little Green Pet Pro; the Shark StainStriker is on par but uses two formulas.

Our verdict: yes, it's the simple, proven pick if you deal with pets, kids or a messy car. To deep-clean whole rooms, get an upright instead.
